A Day to Play

holiday-cardI played hookey yesterday. As much as I love scripting, I took a day off. I wasn’t quite ready to think about doors. 🙂 So I worked on a holiday greeting card. I suppose I could claim that was “working” , since I learned a lot. What I learned was that I shouldn’t have unlinked my red boa. Yes, of course it was an accident. And I thought I fixed it. But I didn’t. So now it’s in 9 pieces. I suspect that those pieces are heading for the trash. 🙂 But I also worked on aligning and linking prims and applying textures. Some of the holiday cards I have received are works of art and major builds in and of themselves. But for the time being, I’m satisfied with my card. Greetings are inside – pan the camera to read the message. What? No camera to pan? It says “Best wishes for the holiday season. Ahuva, Mallory, Drake & Bill”.

I spent time watching people hunt butterflies at Shengri La, chatted with dancing-with-the-distinguished-des1 friends, sorted inventory, danced at the Crown & Pearl. A very restful day. Last night was the NCI holiday ball. The theme (and contest) was Victorian dress. I didn’t feel like shopping for something specifically Victorian but I dancing-at-nci-victorian-ballwas assured that formal attire was sufficient. Thank goodness I hang out with Shenlei, who makes sure that my wardrobe is stocked with beautiful gowns. So I made myself presentable and tried to head to Boomer Island for the ball. Oops. waltzing-with-a-new-friendThe sim was restarting. why-women-love-formal-gowns LOL. What timing. Then the sim was full. So I IM’d Alaska and begged for a tp. And there I was. I should have been taking pictures. There were some stunning dresses there. But I was in the mood to dance. What a surprise. So I looked about, saw someone I’d never met before, and asked him to dance. Yes, I AM incredibly pushy. Time is short, why waste it waiting?

What a wonderful delight – he was witty and articulate and intelligent! So we chatted and danced and I forgot to take many pictures. He was dressed for the theme – neat outfit. If you click through on these photos, you can see the beautiful dresses. If you click through on the aerial view, besides seeing all the full, swirling dresses, you can see everyone lined up at the back to have their photo taken for the Victorian Dress contest. It was a lovely time. The dresses were beautiful, the men distinguished, the venue was nice and spacious. Of course, it was a bit strange to be waltzing to the Beach Boys singing “Little Saint Nick” but that is simply the kind of thing you learn to take in stride in SL. 🙂 Certainly the favorite moment was when the DJ played Kermit’s renditions of Christmas carols. I think we all sent “awwwwww, KERMIT!!!!” at the same moment.

I was planning on heading back to Shengri La going-for-the-goldfor the butterfly hunt. But instead I was tp’d to the ice skating there. I had trouble getting started (oh dear, why is that SUCH a familiar refrain???). Shenlei and Harper were already out on the ice gliding and twirling but Gertie and I couldn’t seem to move out of position. So we jumped off those pose balls and headed out on our own. Well, Gertie headed out. I was a bit at a loss. So Gertie gave me a pair of ice skates and Shen rezzed another set of skating balls and we were beauty-on-iceon our way. The crowds cheered and threw roses. Even the foreign judges were impressed. (Please notice how politically correct that is – no matter where YOU live, some judge is from another country.) What I noticed immediately was yet another gap in my wardrobe. Obviously I “NEED” a skating outfit. So I added that to my shopping plenty-of-room-for-skatinglist: winter jacket, skating outfit. I really liked Gertie’s skates – I may have to consider getting a pair of cool-looking skates as well. See- this is what happens when I stop scripting – I think about shopping!!!! Gliding and twirling and chatting as the sun set. Check it out for yourself- it was a lovely time. Periodically butterfly hunters would stop by or soar overhead. At one point a friend of Shen’s stopped by, under the delusion that I understand scripting. 🙂 She began asking memidnight-skate2 about sensor functions. I did understand what she was saying, I even thought I remembered HellspawneD telling me about the restrictions and rule. But I certainly couldn’t answer her question. But Hell was online. So I IM’d him the questions. He offered to come and chat with her directly. She thought that was a great idea. So Hell tp’d in, sat himself down on the ice as we beauties skated about him, and he answered scripting questions. Now THAT’S a teacher. “There is no try, there is only DO.” LOL.

Alright, that was yesterday, today is today. Time to script some doors. And think about that dance floor. Time to decide what I want to wear to the ball at Shengri La on Saturday (hey, I can’t wear what I wore yesterday – you all SAW that already!! Can’t wear my red feather boa either.) RL has some pressing concerns as well. So I guess I know what’s on schedule for today…..

There's not much to say about me. I discovered SecondLife by accident, wandered in, and decided I wanted to stay. This blog was a chronicle of my adventures and misadventures in SL. It also includes stray thoughts that occur to me as a result of my time in SL. Both I and my avatar are female. We both love water and the beach and gardening and parties and hanging out with friends. Updating this after quite some time. I haven't appeared in SL in many many months (probably over a year by now) but SL has remained in my thoughts. I do miss my SL, but at least I still have contact with some of my friends from there. In the meantime.... this blog has evolved to be about my RL adventures. :) Nowhere near as risque as my SL but I do keep busy. I still like all the things listed above. I didn't have any cats in SL (only ducks and a panda) so my cats feel that they should play starring roles in my posts. :) I didn't do much eating IN SL although certainly food and drink accompanied me in RL while I roamed inworld. Cooking and baking have become more fun and interesting once I redid my kitchen. That renovation took longer and cost more than if I'd done it virtually, but I'm thrilled to have a tangible new kitchen! I hope you like food and drink as well! Thanks for reading!
