Heard At The Water Cooler

Folks begin to gatherThe rumor is that Mr. Telling is going to relocate. The current location has been fine, and the local staff has been great, but some functionality would be better addressed in a different location. Emspar has been working on that today. Nothing new really to report about it, other than it’s being investigated. I bet free coffee will still be included. *grin* Do you think we could lobby for complimentary chocolate too? Other than that, today was quiet. Lalo and Emspar got a chance to relax together and rest up.

The GatheringI went out on a road-trip assignment last night. I wasn’t able to be with Lalo to light the Chanukiah, so I can’t give you the shot of Night 3. But I did get the chance to celebrate with some of Lalo’s friends in SL. I got inworld in time to head to Edloe for the candle lighting. I don’t take very good photos – I don’t have the patience to set up lighting and angle and all. So the really good shots are by Honour. 🙂 The one where the lighting is poor is by me (don’t want to taint Honour’s reputation with my (lack of) skill.

The LightingWhen I say “Lalo’s friends in SL”, you need to know that it wasn’t just SL friends. Many of the InWorldz folk came in too, so that we could all be together in Lalo’s honor. We lit the candles, said the prayers, and then raised a toast to Lalo. So, Mr. Telling, if your ears (whether furry, pointed avatar ears or rounded humanoid ears) were burning last night, it was because we were toasting you. Gee Lalo – you should hear all the nice things we say about you. 🙂 We’re not quite as witty as you or as quick with a pun, but we did our best to do as you’ve taught us. *grin*

The ToastingChanukiah lighting takes place in InWorldz at 4:30pm SLT on Nova sim. Wizzy has set up a healing garden on Lalo’s Inworldz parcel where you can rez: Takamaka/51/204/22. Chanukiah lighting takes place in SL on Edloe at 5:00pm SLT at Edloe/188/205/48.

Bamboo says Happy 3rd Night!Lalo and Emspar appreciate all the love and good wishes you are sending. I’ll do my best to keep this blog posted with information daily, even if it’s just to say nothing much new to say. /me heads off to clean the white boards, sharpen the pencils, clean the coffee cups.

Twisted Isle Opens

/me sings: I’d like to be, under the sea…. That seems to be where some of the best InWorldz parties take place – under the sea! I’m not sure if it’s a deliberate choice on Soror Nishi’s part or if, as some speculated yesterday, she has a severe plumbing problem on that sim. *grin* As Soror posted this past week, she has opened a new build in InWorldz: Twisted Isle. I was able to make the opening party and am so very glad I did.

I remembered to download the latest Imprudence Experimental viewer, so this time I had sound, unlike the last party I attended there. 🙂 Megan Cline was DJ’ing the party. She is GREAT!!!! I LOVE her choice of music – it’s “my” music. She told me that she owns a venue in IW called The Pit, and plays a lot of this genre there. You KNOW I will have to be rezzing in IW more often now. There were things that I needed to do in RL but everytime I thought “i’ll logoff now”, Megan put on another fantastic tune. and I had to stay. 🙂 My only regret is that I have no izzies and so I couldn’t tip her. 😦 Believe me – she definitely deserved a generous tip.

Soror’s build, or at least what I saw of it, looks haunting and intriguing and mysterious. You can see the paths leading off in the deep. She’s created objects especially for this build. For all you IW homeowners out there, Soror has a shop at the build and you can purchase some of these cool objects for yourself. I didn’t have time to go exploring through the build, although I did a bit of camming about. But Soror says that camming is not the best way to experience it as “there is a bit of a soundscape that alters as you move around the build.” I plan on going back when there is no party to distract me. It’s your own fault, Soror – if you’re going to throw great parties, you have to understand that people don’t want to wander off. *grin*

I think that I may have to download the Firestorm viewer. I was having a lot of lag and a LOT of confusion because I am so used to V2. And I LIKE V2. One of the reasons I can’t provide much of the fun chit-chat that was occurring yesterday is because I didn’t have my preferences set to record local chat. Sigh. I forgot that each new viewer requires that I double-check my settings. I was having problems with my camera also – a lot of lag in responses there. I’m not sure what was happening with that. I had a moment’s panic when I couldn’t find the photos I’d taken. The pics are not great, but at least they give some idea of how things looked. If you want to see really GOOD portrait shots from the party, check out Soror’s post. I see she didn’t include any shots of herself, but she looked great, per usual. I love her skirt!!! I’m going to have to get izzies so I can tip and shop.

You can see that avatars in IW are as interesting and personal as they are in any other world. I love a life where I dance with a giant squid and octopuses one night and winged lions the next. I’m having a lot of fun meeting the folks in IW. Certainly the folks I have met are intelligent and funny and love to party. What’s not to like?

Expatriate

I thought of titling this post “Émigré”, but I consider SL to be my home and my visits to InWorldz temporary. Since expat has a temporary denotation I used that instead.

I went to IW first back in July 2010. It was both good and bad. It was good, because immediately upon rezzing my friend Astra was there welcoming me. We are SL friends and rezzing in and finding a friend immediately made IW feel like “home”. It was a good experience because Astra guided me to a welcome area where there was free content for customizing my appearance. As I’ve blogged in the past, SL residents seem to NEED customization instantly. When we would rez into Opensim or other virtual worlds at work, the SL folk would click “Edit Appearance” instantly, attempting to look like ourselves. The not-so-good part was the lag, which was horrendous. I was trying to change my hair when I crashed. And there I left it for all these many months.

Now many of my friends have either emigrated to InWorldz or maintain vacation homes there. I’ve been reading blogs and watching the content grow. I hear that Tranquility Dexter has rewritten the IW scripting language (Phlox) so that the lag is alleviated greatly, if not vanished completely. I decided it was time to go and finish doing my hair. *grin*

It was great. (Okay, I’ll confess – I miss using v2. *grin* But I did begin to remember the other viewer.) I love all the nice free content available to noobs, there were a lot of people there when I rezzed, and there were flowers! I managed to make myself presentable, I think. I don’t look too much like “myself” in these pics, but that will come in time. In the meanwhile – I’m ready to rock and roll InWorldz.
