So Very Fortunate

I don’t want to tempt fate, because I’m superstitious enough to know you should NEVER say good things without doing SOMETHING ritual to ward off bad fortune. But I feel that I really must take a moment to say why I can wake up each morning with a smile. First and foremost, I have the most wonderful family and I love them all dearly. I have wonderful friends and community and I am grateful to and appreciate each and everyone of them.

But this post is to say thank you to my co-workers and direct management at my job. They are the best coworkers and friends that you could find in your career. They are the ones who encouraged me to try SL and blogging. My manager gives me the time to volunteer on SL-based projects that do not directly benefit our part of the corporate world, but that do help the corporation as a whole. I am very grateful for that support. It has been wonderful fun (okay, part of the whole tree process was NOT fun 🙂 ). Now it has become more than fun – the work is a complete joy.

I am GARDENING in SL!!!! Yes, that is right. I am landscaping flower beds in preparation for our conference (yay – flowers, not trees!!!). I logged on late last night because I couldn’t resist the lure of digging in the virtual dirt, planting virtual flowers. No broken finger nails, no sore back, no watering, no weeding, no worms!!! 🙂 I am having the most wonderful wonderful time. Who knew?????? And I’m learning about editing items: rotating, position, stretching. This is reviving my interest in building.

I know that there are many many more beautiful places in SL. Obviously I am not a professional nor am I especially artistic. But I am so glad that I “threw myself under the bus” and volunteered for this task. Thanks to the friend who urged me to do so, thanks to my manager who allows me the time and offers support, thanks to all the friends who got me to this point, thanks to my sister who came and spent an hour landscaping alongside me. 🙂 So here it is: my very first SL garden.

There's not much to say about me. I discovered SecondLife by accident, wandered in, and decided I wanted to stay. This blog was a chronicle of my adventures and misadventures in SL. It also includes stray thoughts that occur to me as a result of my time in SL. Both I and my avatar are female. We both love water and the beach and gardening and parties and hanging out with friends. Updating this after quite some time. I haven't appeared in SL in many many months (probably over a year by now) but SL has remained in my thoughts. I do miss my SL, but at least I still have contact with some of my friends from there. In the meantime.... this blog has evolved to be about my RL adventures. :) Nowhere near as risque as my SL but I do keep busy. I still like all the things listed above. I didn't have any cats in SL (only ducks and a panda) so my cats feel that they should play starring roles in my posts. :) I didn't do much eating IN SL although certainly food and drink accompanied me in RL while I roamed inworld. Cooking and baking have become more fun and interesting once I redid my kitchen. That renovation took longer and cost more than if I'd done it virtually, but I'm thrilled to have a tangible new kitchen! I hope you like food and drink as well! Thanks for reading!

  1. I love how you always find the joy in SL… too often we hear about the pitfalls. And I, for one, am all about the joys. I’ve recently been learning to build also. (after a year and a half).. so if you ever want to meet up in a sandbox, let me know!

  2. yay for more people building!!!!

I was thinking of having a class for people interested in building. Something small and really tailored to what the student wants to learn. More of a mentoring session(lol, from the mentor). I’d do it on my own island.

    Think anyone would be interested?

  3. Me too Bailey! I just learned about how to group my flowers and how to flip them. 🙂 I’ve been doing each flower one by one by one. The NEXT flower bed is going to use GROUPS!!!!! LOL. I am SO ready to learn!!!
