Sunsets Sepias and Other ‘Scapes

I’ve missed a lot in SL the last several months, but I’m baaaaaaack! I hate missing parties and I missed the Victorian Vernissage in Caledon back in November. The vernissage was for Callipygian Christensen’s newest art exhibit: Sunsets Sepias & Other ‘Scapes. Honour was fortunate enough to be there, in proper Victorian dress. I knew I would probably miss the vernissage so Calli invited me over to watch her as she hung the pictures. These photos were all new to me. This exhibit is a collection of images of the Great Wall and the countryside around it. Calli has been experimenting with sepia tones and the results are lovely.

Although the exhibit started back on December 14th, it will be on display until January 30, 2011 at the Kiku Gallery of Amatsu Shima. When I went to visit, the sim had already gone into winter-mode. It is a beautiful sim. I played about with the windlight settings, trying to practice. It takes me awhile, but ultimately I’ll grasp some of the essentials of lighting.

I enjoyed the gallery also. Often I end up in places where I need to figure out how to get from one altitude to another. Yeah, these things are still difficult for me. This building has simple, clean lines. The architecture is not fighting with the art work. In the center of the building is a restful area with benches, open to the sky. Both the exhibit and the building have a serene atmosphere.

There's not much to say about me. I discovered SecondLife by accident, wandered in, and decided I wanted to stay. This blog was a chronicle of my adventures and misadventures in SL. It also includes stray thoughts that occur to me as a result of my time in SL. Both I and my avatar are female. We both love water and the beach and gardening and parties and hanging out with friends. Updating this after quite some time. I haven't appeared in SL in many many months (probably over a year by now) but SL has remained in my thoughts. I do miss my SL, but at least I still have contact with some of my friends from there. In the meantime.... this blog has evolved to be about my RL adventures. :) Nowhere near as risque as my SL but I do keep busy. I still like all the things listed above. I didn't have any cats in SL (only ducks and a panda) so my cats feel that they should play starring roles in my posts. :) I didn't do much eating IN SL although certainly food and drink accompanied me in RL while I roamed inworld. Cooking and baking have become more fun and interesting once I redid my kitchen. That renovation took longer and cost more than if I'd done it virtually, but I'm thrilled to have a tangible new kitchen! I hope you like food and drink as well! February 2024 Update: It’s been a very long time since I was in SL. I dropped in back in 2020 when covid took over most everything. In 2022 we ripped out the second floor of our house, so that was MORE renovation. At this rate we’ll have rebuilt our entire house from the inside out! :) I retired from corporate life in 2023. It occurs to me, long after the appropriate time, that I could have started a new page, or blog, since I’m writing about RL, not SL. :). But SL changed me for the better and it’s definitely part of who I am. So I continue posting! Thanks for reading!

  1. Happy New Year Ahuva..and thank you for such a wonderful review!

One correction, to avoid confusion if I might – there are actually 2 exhibits involved in the images you mention 🙂 The sepias of the great wall are still on exhibit at my permanent Tamrannoch gallery here: http://slurl.com/secondlife//87/197/23

The ‘Sunsets, Sepias and ‘Scapes’ exhibit is a temporary one at the Kiku Gallery at Amatsu – and you are right, it is a lovely gallery to be exhibiting in. Many of those images were taken in the Amatsu sim itself.
